Dr. Mubenga has been invited to give a presentation titled, “Promoting STEM In Africa” at the University of Toledo. The presentation is given as part of the Fall 2019 BrownBag Series, “Across Campus and Around The World: Interdisciplinary Dialogue on Internatonional Issues. The series is organized by the Department of Sociology and Anthropology. The talk will take place on Tuesday October 8, 2019 at 12:00 Noon in UH 2550.
Dr. Mubenga is a Professor of Engineering, Department of Engineering Technology, at the University of Toledo. She is also the the founder of SMIN Power Group, LLC, which has been introducing photovoltaic systems in Africa. At this event, she will speak about the nonprofit she created and is leading to promote higher education in Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM). The STEM DRC Initiative is a 501c3 non profit corporation that operates primarily in her homeland of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The mission of the organization is to advance the cause of higher education in STEM subjects through scholarship awards, mentoring, research and networking for students in the DRC, its diaspora, and the USA. Helping bright young students obtain this kind of education can help drive much needed socio-economic progress for all Congolese people.
